THE SEASON OF GIVING AND THANKS |
Thank you so much for your contributions to our Thanksgiving celebration. It
was such fun to see all of you and we hope you enjoyed this annual event at Good
Shepherd. The
children had lots of fun making the handprint table runners and centerpieces to
decorate the tables, and they were excited to serve the pumpkin bread they had
made. The recipes for the pumpkin bread and the macaroni and cheese are
attached to this newsletter. We would also like to thank you for your support
of the Angel Tree project! The children are very excited about all the gifts to
be given to needy children. It warms our hearts to watch the children’s
pleasure as they place their gifts under our Christmas tree.

CELEBRATING THE BIRTH OF CHRIST |
During the
children’s last school day before our Christmas break we will gather in a large
circle after song time and bring the birthday cakes for Jesus into the center of
the circle for all to see. We will turn out the lights, light the candles, and
sing “Happy Birthday” to Jesus and “Away in a Manger”. It is a treasured moment
listening to the children sing together and looking at their precious faces in
the flickering candlelight. We will then go together to visit the beautifully
decorated sanctuary upstairs. As the children sit in this quiet and reverent
setting, we will retell the wondrous story of Jesus’ birth using figures from
one of our mangers. It is always a very special
time
for the teachers as well as the children. It is deeply moving to see 36 young
children sitting side by side in the pews, their eyes wide with innocence,
bright with awe, and full of hope and expectations. As it says in Matthew 9:14
“...for the kingdom belongs to such as these.” We will end this special day
with each class gathering around a Christmas tree they have decorated
themselves. Each child will have a turn to come to the tree and select a
present from their teachers. When every child has one, they will open their
identical gifts all at the same time. We will then sing some carols, ending
with “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”. We extend that wish to all of you as
well. May you take time to be happy in the love and joy He has given us through
the birth of His son, Jesus Christ.
