IMPORTANT INFORMATION Fire Safety Week We’re sure you heard from your children all about our visit to the Medway Fire Station. Firefighter Joe MacDougall helped us cross the street. Once we got there, he talked with the children about fire safety and showed us all the special clothes that firefighters wear, including the heavy jacket and pants, boots, face mask, oxygen tank, and fire helmet. The children were excited to be able to try on some of the clothes. In the garage, he showed us the fire engines and the children were thrilled to go inside the cab of a fire truck. During his presentation to the children, Firefighter Joe asked the children to tell you that:
He also talked about the importance of not playing with lighters and matches, and what to do if your clothing should catch fire: STOP, DROP and ROLL. As always, Firefighter Joe did a wonderful job of informing the children about fire safety. During fire safety week, we also conducted our first fire drill. The children were very responsive in following the directions given them about our procedure to exit the school. With the pleasant weather in early November, we were able to go outside during our second set of fire drills so the children could become familiar with what would happen if we actually had to leave the building. We will continue to conduct fire drills each month. Arrival and Dismissal The drop-off and pick-up procedure goes more smoothly and quickly if everyone remembers to stay in their cars to wait for us to come and get your child or bring your child to you. Thank you! Operation Christmas Child We’re thrilled with all the wonderful shoeboxes filled with gifts for needy children around the world. Your generosity is such a blessing to these children. THANK YOU!! Lost and Found We have several small items such as hair clips and barrettes, as well as a small plush cow that seem to have lost their owners. If you are missing any of these things, please come in and take a look at our collection! Wish List We so very much appreciate your generosity during the holiday season, but are concerned that giving individual staff gifts may become too burdensome because we have so many teachers. We are offering parents again this year the option of giving a gift to the school that may be enjoyed by all the children in lieu of individual staff gifts. A small Christmas tree hung with paper “wish list” ornaments will be placed near the office at the beginning of December.
Hanging of the Greens Medway Village Church will be having a family Christmas party on December 3 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. We will be decorating the church, taking family photos, making ornaments, singing Christmas carols, and enjoying a cookie swap. If this is something in which your and your family would enjoy participating, please give me a call (you would need to bring copies of your cookie recipe and a container for the cookies you receive). We’d love to see you! The church will also be having a children’s service on Christmas Eve, including a wonderful puppet show, “The Crippled Lamb”. We’ll let you know the details soon. Holiday Stress I am attaching an excellent article about coping with the holidays. Some of you may have read it before, but it is so good that I want our new families to see it too. May the Lord bless you and keep you and give you peace, Miss Cathy |
